Air conditioning
Air conditioning systems for yachts
The combination of high temperatures and humidity can make things quite uncomfortable. While air conditioning has become standard in cars, offices, and homes, it’s increasingly common on yachts too. However, air conditioning systems can consume a lot of energy, which is a challenge for yachts under 60 feet where power may be limited. Traditional AC units running on 230 VAC often require a diesel generator or an extra shore power connection, but there’s another option—12, 24, or 48 VDC systems.
Air conditioning units on DC power
Blue Airco has developed a compact air conditioning unit that runs on direct current (DC) and is highly energy-efficient. Compared to a 230 VAC unit of the same capacity, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 50%.
Quiet and efficient
The Blue Airco units operate efficiently and quietly, thanks to their modulating compressor, fan, and water pump. The compressor starts gradually, reducing peak power demand. As the temperature drops, the unit’s capacity is slowly scaled down, minimizing the number of start/stop cycles. This makes it especially quiet at night, ensuring a peaceful onboard environment without disruptive noise.
Cooling, heating, and dehumidifying
The unit does more than just cool the air; it can also provide heat (as long as the cooling water is above 2°C). Additionally, it can function as a dehumidifier, keeping the air and interior of your yacht dry. Seawater is used to transfer heat (or cold, when in heating mode) from the unit via a titanium condenser, which ensures long-lasting durability even in harsh environments where copper/nickel condensers may not hold up as well.
Digital touch screen control panel
The Blue Airco comes with an intuitive digital touch screen control panel. It’s easy to use but still provides enough customization to let you set the air conditioning unit to your exact preferences.
A sustainable solution
Environmental impact is also considered during the production of Blue Airco units. They are soldered using local hydrogen, and refrigerants are handled with great care to minimize waste.
